Our class was put forward to participate in the 23/24 Heritage Keepers project by Ms. McCrann in our school. We were really honoured and we were determined to work hard and see it though to the end.

We would participate in a series of webinars and examine our local flora, fauna, traditions and history and come up with some ideas. The webinars were an hour long over the course of 5 weeks and hosted by Mary Dillon. They commenced on 8th November. They were very interesting and we they helped us to really think about Rathfarnham. We came up with loads of ideas of ways to promote Rathfarnham and they ranged from ice-cream stops in Nutgrove Shopping Centre to cycling tracks around Marley park. The final two included a project on the animals of the dodder. However, we decided we wanted to focus on the nuns from Loreto Abbey by a unanimous vote! Our school is right beside the old buildings.

Sister Maria Hyland is our principal and we all wanted to find out more about her life and her fellow sisters.

What was life like in Loreto Abbey?

And a project was born!
