A nun back from the past!!! By Reeva Stewart

On Wednesday the 17th April, we were just minding our own business, doing our work, when we heard a knock on the door. It was Sr Maria, with a special guest who came to see us in school, it was ✨ Sr Kathleen ✨!

She spoke to us about her past. She had been training as a nun for SIXTY YEARS! That’s a really long time. She went to school in Loreto Abbey, and when she was there, she couldn’t go back home for a long long time. When she was in the school, everyone had to make their own stuff, so they made the habit they wore to cover their hair like a hijab, their neck and the tops of their shoulders, though it didn’t quite look like a hijab, because it had a blackish grey piece of fabric at the back of their habit. They also made their rosary beads and crucifix, the beads were made from walnut shells painted with black paint and the crucifix was made from wood. We interviewed her and she told us about how the Abbey was made and where the bricks came from, what the money was called and how they got the money to make the church beside the Abbey. The money was called dowry which came from a wealthy postulant and that’s the money used to build the church. The red bricks that the Abbey was made from were from Holland. She really enjoyed her time in the Abbey with all of her friends.
